Ullesthorpe W.I February Report
2024 started with a celebration dinner in the Village Hall. Members and their partners enjoyed a three-course dinner provided by excellent caterers with lots of social time to catch up with friends.
We have had two trips to Concordia to see the Pantomime and the Carole King musical. Both wonderful productions.
Some of our members have been busy making a Tapestry to commemorate the life of the Queen. This is on display in the Village Hall.
Our first meeting was in February when we were entertained by Mike Lister who gave us an insight into the history of playing cards. Cards were first played with in China around AD200 but didn’t reach Europe until the 1300s.There are many myths and mysteries connected to the cards, how suits developed, why there was a tax on cards and how cards were used as information aids during the wars. The afternoon finished with a card trick and Mike told us which packs were valuable and ones to look out for at home and in Charity shops!
We are looking forward to our April meeting and trying Tai Chi. Information is in the library.
Visitors always welcome.
