For those who value the easy access to the countryside our village provides; a year ago the Parish Council entered into negotiations to purchase the railway cutting, from the bridge on Main Street to the point where it joins the golf course and becomes an embankment. Now we are twelve months on, and the legalities have been completed.
Part of this cutting, at the golf course end, is already a footpath, our aim is to extend the path to the bridge and create a new access point by the bridge to enable access from the centre of the village. We are now beginning the process of engaging with contractors to establish costs for clearance, surfacing and for the access.
A former village resident, Terry Muschialli of Lea Cottage, Ashby Road, left a substantial bequest to the village, and as he had an interest in wildlife and the countryside, it seems appropriate that this sum is put towards this project. We will need additional funds for which we hope to secure grant aid. We are also consulting wildlife groups for advice on how we might improve the environment to that end.
If any residents have experience in any of the aspects of work involved in this, both advice and practical assistance is welcome. Or perhaps you may just want to share in and support the development. If so, please contact Phil on 077 888 41474 or Email philhague@btinternet.com.
Progress will also be noted on the Village Website at www.ullesthorpe.org and on the Parish Council Minutes.
