A5/M69 Burbage Island, renewal of traffic signal and safety barrier works
I am writing to let you know that we will be carrying out essential maintenance works on the
A5/M69 Burbage Island and its associated slip roads and approaches.
During our scheme of work, we will:

  • renew traffic signal equipment.
  • renew the safety barrier on the roundabout and beneath the M69 overbridges.
  • remove vegetation to reduce sign obstruction and to allow future maintenance access.
  • resurface carriageway and associated road markings and road studs in various
Once completed, all road users will benefit from improved signal operation and road safety.
When will the work take place?
Work is due to start on 22nd January 2024 and is scheduled for completion by the end of
    April 2024.
However, we will be visible on site as of 15th January 2024 to set up our site compound/work
Please note that all our planned roadworks may be subject to change due to weather
    conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
How will the work affect traffic?
To keep our programme for these works as short as possible and to minimise disruption to the
local community, residents, businesses, and road users, we will use a combination of
overnight full slip road closures, roundabout gyratory closures, Lane closures and ring
management. The island will be operated 24/7 by temporary traffic signals as required to
maintain traffic flows whilst being replaced with new modern signals.
